Featured roaster – March 2017

Ladies and gentlemen, meet your coffee makers this month – Maker Fine Coffee is back again as our featured March roaster. Some of you may recognise these beauties from when we first introduced them back in mid-2015… we thought they were so good we just had to invite them back!

For those who haven’t been as lucky to have tried Maker before, here’s a little history for you all and for our new members (we’re excited for you!). Maker Fine Coffee was established in 2014 by husband and wife team John and Stephanie Vroom, who were once making tracks in Kew with their first coffee venture, Ora Cafe. Going out on their own into their first foray into the wholesale roasting space was naturally the next progression.

Now, nestled in the industrial estates of Richmond, the team has grown into something truly admirable. Not only does the coffee speak for itself, the atmosphere of their Richmond location is impressive to say the least. It’s a beautifully designed space dotted with quirky and interest artwork, filled with super friendly faces backed by John and Stephanie who are both truly passionate about their craft.

The team is compact but excellent. John and Rafeal head up all things coffee including sourcing, QC, profiling, and roasting, and couldn’t do that without the support of the accounts and the brew bar teams made up of Stephanie and Amanda.

Their hyper commitment to producing only single origin roasts rather than pursuing the traditional roaster path towards coffee blends sets them apart from the others. In doing so, the integrity and uniqueness afforded by the origin is retained, which they feel is a very important attribute of specialty coffee.

At their roastery, find an array of imported coffee from El Salvador, Brazil and Columbia to name a few, roasted right here in Melbourne. Excitingly, Maker will soon be rolling out a new product very soon; their very own carbonated coffee. Brewed in Melbourne and 100% natural – stay tuned for this one folks, definitely worth a taste.

So do yourselves a favour and meet the team to see for yourself first hand, a coffee experience you won’t forget. We promise you’ll be impressed. Get to Melbourne and visit the Maker Fine Coffee Brew Bar at 47 North Street, Richmond. Open Tuesdays from 7am-3pm and Saturdays from 8am-3pm.

Espresso drinkers

Maker’s delicious Seasonal Espresso, The Smith, is a combination of ripe cherry, hazelnut and milk chocolate flavours. A dry pressed coffee marked by its intense sweetness and hints of acidity. This coffee gold has come afar to impress to palates of Melbourne, stemming from the southern regions of Minas Gerais, and processed in Poços de Caldas in Brazil. If you’re a fan of the cherry ripe, this is the espresso for you!

Explorers are getting a taste of the El Vergel from Guatemala, which consists of strawberry, black tea, dried fruits and peach flavours. This coffee has been grown using natural recourses such as ash, soil, and rocks that work as fertilisers – interesting info for all you horticultural buffs out there!

Filter drinkers

You’ll also be tasting the El Vergel from Guatemala. Taste a similar profile our espresso drinkers are enjoying including the strawberry sweetness and black tea, yet with a more delicate flavour of floral aromas, and soft peach acidity.

Explorers are getting a taste of El Salvador with Maker’s Finca San Rafael. Grown in one of the best areas of El Salvador! This coffee has a combination of berry jam, milk chocolate and shortbread flavours.
